I run into a lot of people every day who say that they don’t have the time to workout with their personal trainer. While for a very select few, this can be true, for most people, it is more an issue of time management than lack of time. did you know that the average American spends a little over 8 HOURS a day in front of their television? Its 8 hours and 11 minutes to be exact. That is over 57 hours per week! They also look at, on average, 120 different pages on the internet. If you were only to spend one minute per page (which is on the very low end) that is 2 hours per day or 14 hours per week! that means, that for the Average American, they spend over 40% of their time zoned out watching TV or surfing the internet. Still think you don’t have time for a personal trainer?
i know that it seems like 3 hours per week in the gym is a long time for most of you, but when you consider what the average American is spending almost half of his time during the week, 3 hours is easy to come by. It may mean missing Letterman a couple of nights per week, or not checking your friends Facebook status that one last time before you finally close the laptop for the night, but trust me, the health and LIFE benefits are well worth it! I know this, because for a time, I was guilty of the same things. I would find that, rather than go to the gym, I would stay home and watch that movie that I hadn’t seen in a long time. One day won’t hurt right? I would come across a great article on whatever subject it was that i was researching at the time, and decide that was more important than hitting the gym. “I’ll do it tomorrow, one day wont hurt.” The hard part was when I actually became aware of how much “I’ll go tomorrow” was affecting my goals. I will say this. you’re right. Missing a day or two here and there wont affect you negatively. In some cases, it might even help. When you let it become your mantra, and excuse for not hitting the gym, that s where the problems come. You start gaining weight the wrong way, and life just gets more difficult. You dont sleep as well, which makes you late for work, which brings the heat down from the boss, etc., etc., etc. eventually you end up in a downward spiral that is hard to break. I realize that for some, that is an extreme description, but let me ask you this. If seemingly everyone knows that exercise is great for stress relief, why do we keep seeing news reports about the raging obesity problems, and how stress levels are at an all time high. these facts are all over the news seemingly everyday, and we know from our 2-hour-a-day habit that this is true.
My challenge to you is this: why not shut off the TV for a bit, close up the computers, and come see one of our personal trainers? You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain. Scratch that. You WILL lose some stress from your everyday life, and probably a few pants sizes too. doesn’t that seem worth more to you than some old Seinfeld reruns? I know it does to me!
