Not Getting the Results you Want?

Have you been killing it in the gym but you aren’t getting the results you want? fat loss not coming as well as you had hoped, seemingly no matter what you do? Assuming that you are doing what you are supposed to be doing outside of the gym with maintaining your diet and other nutritional aspects, there is usually a common culprit. A bad program. And, to be honest, it may not be a bad program. The question you really need to ask yourself is, “Is your program optimal?” By optimal I mean is it designed specifically for you, and for your goals? You could take the best personal trainer n the planet, and if he isn’t familiar with how to tweak a program to make it ideal for your specific goals, there is next to nothing you can do to make it any better. For example, an athlete isnt going to come in with the specific goal to lose twenty pounds and tighten up his arms. The same as a mother doesn’t want to come in and improve her vertical jump so she looks better at her daughters wedding.

This is where a good personal trainer comes in to play. To be honest, and you may not realize this, but the fact that a trainer knows how to write, supervise, and change programs based on your needs and results is the reason you hired him in the first place. He has a base of knowledge that you don’t. If you look at it technically, it is the same reason you go to see a doctor or lawyer. They are experts in their field, and possess knowledge that you don’t, and probably don’t want to, have.

Some things you should look at as a trainee when examining your program will help you see if you are headed in the right direction. Look around at some of the other people who are training when you are. Are they doing the exact same thing that you are? You can expect to see some similarities, but are you just standing in line waiting for the 5K runner and the off-season football player to go on the machine before you do? This should throw up a flag. You should also look at the sheet that your trainer has that day, or week, or months worth of workouts on. He does give you your program in advance, right? RIGHT? Does it appear to have been photocopied more than a few times? If it has, there is a pretty good chance that you are doing the same program as everyone else, AND NOT GETTING WHAT YOU ARE PAYING GOOD MONEY FOR! One other thing to take note of, and this will apply more to someone who has been using a personal trainer for a while, is how often your program changes. Been doing the exact same program two or three times a week for the last few months? That’s a bad sign. Once again you aren’t getting your moneys worth. you can, and should look elsewhere. you work hard for your money, and your personal trainer should as well.

I will say too that while two programs designed for different people with different goals can, and sometimes do look similar. Without going into specifics, they can look similar, as far as some of the exercises and splits go. However, once you get into the application of the program, the vast differences between the two start to appear.
